Kenai.com and java.net close April 28, 2017

Users of the community websites kenai.com and java.net have been notified that both sites will be shutting down on April 28, 2017. Java.net has been referring to Oracle’s own Java community site for some time.

The closure means for users that they have to remove existing projects that are on the sites before the closure date in order to keep them. The content of a project can only be requested once by an administrator. Therefore, Oracle warns in the instructions for getting a project tarball to agree with other project admins about who makes the request. Oracle handles requests on a first-come, first-served basis. Oracle has prepared a form for requesting a tarball or for forwarding traffic to the project to a new location.

Project Kenai was launched in September 2008 by Sun Microsystems. In February 2010, Oracle announced that in connection with the merger of Sun and Oracle, Kenai would be transferred to java.net with the underlying infrastructure from kenai.com moving to java.net. Migration should be ‘over soon’ at the time.
