Kaspersky Releases Decryptor for Latest Version of CryptXXX Ransomware
Kaspersky Lab has released a tool that decrypts files locked by ransomware CryptXXX v3. The advanced ransomware has been proliferating since May and so far, no complete decryption has been possible.
The security company has added the decryption method to its Rannoh Decryptor software, which users can download at NoMoreRansom.org. Kaspersky Lab also managed to crack previous versions of CryptXXX and released software fairly quickly at the time with which users could tackle the ransomware.
Version 3 of the cryptolocker turned out to be more difficult to crack, only half a year after the new ransomware appeared, full decryption is now possible. With previously released tools, some files could already be recovered.
CryptXXX v3 not only encrypts files but is also capable of getting login credentials from various applications. Kaspersky suspects that hundreds of thousands of systems are infected with the ransomware. Criminals used exploit kits such as Angler and Neutrino to distribute the ransomeware through malicious advertisements, for example.
