Kandao has announced the QooCam 8K. The 360-degree camera has two 1/1.7″ sensors that can record 8k videos at 30 frames per second. The camera can also record 4k videos at 120fps. The QooCam 8K will be released in December for 631 euros.

The QooCam 8K contains two cmos sensors, each of which has a maximum resolution of 3840×3840 pixels. As a result, the final videos have a resolution of up to 7680×3840 pixels at 30 frames per second. When the resolution is lowered to 3840×1920, the frame rate can increase to 120fps. The camera can also record videos in 10-bit color, where most 360-degree cameras shoot 8-bit. It is unclear how large the files will be at 8k resolution. The camera does support the HEVC encoder. It is relatively efficient in terms of file size. The h264 encoder is also supported.

The two 20-megapixel sensors are 1/1.7″ in size, which is relatively large for a 360-degree camera. Many other cameras in the same price segment include a smaller 1/2.3″ sensor. The Ricoh Theta Z1 does contain a larger sensor of 1″, but this costs 999 euros and can only record 4k videos at 30fps. There are also 360-degree cameras with 8k resolution, including the Insta360 Pro, for example. 3449 euros, and is relatively large compared to the QooCam 8K.

The 360-degree camera can also take pictures with a resolution of 7680×3840. These are converted to 12-bit dng files. According to Kandao, there is also a ‘real-time raw+’ option with 16-bit DNG as output. The camera has 64GB of internal storage capacity, and supports a single micro-SD card of up to 256GB. The camera has a battery capacity of 3600mAh with support for fast charging technology via USB-C. The camera can also be charged while filming. The QooCam 8K has a 2.4″ touchscreen of unknown resolution, a built-in speaker and a 3.5mm jack for external microphones.

The QooCam 8K has a suggested retail price of 631 euros. The camera is currently available for 599 euros during its pre-order period. This period runs until December 11.
