Just Cause maker Avalanche Studios is closing several locations
Avalanche Studios closes two of its five studios. The locations in Montreal and New York will close, while those in Malmö, Liverpool and Stockholm will remain open. In line with this, the Swedish gaming company is laying off about 50 people, or 9 percent of its staff.
In a message writes Avalanche Studios that the closure of the studios is necessary to ensure a 'stable and sustainable future for the company'. The company does not share further details. Avalanche Studios consists of three subsidiaries, namely Avalanche Studios, Expansive Worlds, and Systemic Reaction. It is not clear to what extent these branches have been affected by the closure of the two locations in Montreal and New York.
Avalanche Studios, not to be confused with the American Avalanche Software, was founded in Sweden in 2003 and made several open world games, including the Just Cause series, Mad Max, Rage 2 and theHunter games.
