The judge responsible for Kim Dotcom’s extradition case has resigned. He did this after making a comment during a copyright discussion suggesting that the US is ‘the enemy’.

During the NetHui internet conference held in New Zealand last weekend, David Harvey, judge in the Kim Dotcom extradition case, referred to the statement: “We have met the enemy and he is [the] US,” the New Zealand Herald writes. The quote comes from American cartoonist Walt Kelly’s old comic Pogo. The judge admitted after the conference that the comment he made in the context of a copyright debate “his independence.” and decided to withdraw from it.

The trial over the extradition of Kim Dotcom and his colleagues was adjourned to March 2013 earlier this month. New Zealand judge Nevin Dawson will continue to hear the case. Dawson is no stranger to the Dotcom case; in February of this year, he decided that the suspect in the MegaUpload case could be released on bail.
