Judge approves $1.85 million Cyberpunk 2077 settlement
A US judge has signed the previously concluded settlement agreement between Cyberpunk 2077 publisher CD Projekt and investors. That concludes this combined case of deception in Cyberpunk 2077.
The judge has approval given to the settlement by concluding that the agreement does not give rise to doubts about its fairness. These doubts could arise if the judge concludes that a party is disproportionately favored, or if there is inadequate compensation or excessive fees for the lawyers. That is not the case in this case. There will be a final hearing on June 1 during which, among other things, the fairness, reasonableness and adequacy of the settlement will be discussed again, but that will probably only be a formality.
After the release of Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2020, several investors filed lawsuits against CD Projekt, alleging that the publisher had not been honest about the state of the game on the Xbox and PlayStation consoles. During 2021, four cases were consolidated and the settlement was reached in the current consolidated case at the end of 2021.
Pursuant to this agreement, the plaintiffs waive all claims against the publisher and CD Projekt will pay out $1.85 million. Anyone who traded shares for most of 2020 is eligible for compensation. That works out to about $0.49 per share. Ars Technica writes that a consultant previously estimated on behalf of the investors that the total damage amounts to 11 million dollars. The complainants now share only a small part of that total amount that they say they have lost.
