JoWood Announces Painkiller: Resurrection
Austrian publisher JoWood is going to release Painkiller: Resurrection, which is made by Homegrown Games. Once again, the player finds himself in the vestibule of hell, where he must face dark forces.
Exactly five years after the appearance of the very first Painkiller, the Austrian publisher JoWood familiar that a new part will appear. Painkiller: Resurrection is made by a new developer, Homegrown Games, also from Austria. The game should hit the market in the last quarter of 2009, for now only for the PC, although a version for the Xbox 360 may be released in 2010.
In Painkiller: Resurrection, the player takes on the role of Wild Bill Sherman, who finds himself in the Purgatory, the portal of Hell, where he must face the forces of evil. The starting point is therefore very similar to that of the previous parts. However, JoWood promises that Painkiller: Resurrection has more story. For example, Bill plays a part in an overarching battle between heavenly and diabolical forces.
The game is made with a polished version of the original engine, which can now also handle newer techniques such as motion blur and dynamic lighting. The technical improvements that the original received with the popular PK++ mod have also been adopted by the makers, making it clear that Painkiller: Resurrection is getting a multiplayer option. New is that Resurrection can also be played in co-op.
