Jolla will start releasing Sailfish 3 in October
Jolla will start releasing Sailfish 3 in October. In mid-October, some community members will get the new version of the smartphone operating system, and a larger early access release will come at the end of October.
In the weeks after that period Sailfish 3 will be available to everyone, Jolla writes. That will depend on the findings of the first group of users; Jolla will use their experiences to see if things need to be adjusted.
At the end of October, Jolla will also start releasing Sailfish X, a variant of Sailfish 3 for the Sony Xperia XA2 smartphone. The Finnish software maker says it will provide more details about this as the release gets closer. Users of the XA2 who want to install Sailfish X, have to buy the operating system for 49.90 euros.
Jolla states that some of the new features of Sailfish 3 have already been released through updates to Sailfish 2. It concerns the Nurmonjoki update that came out earlier this month, which includes improvements for VPNs and mobile device management.
At the beginning of this year, Jolla announced Sailfish 3. The operating system works on the Xperia XA2, the Gemini PDA from Planet Computers and on a Russian tablet. Turing announced plans in August for a futuristic smartphone that should be released in 2020 and run multiple operating systems, including Sailfish 3.
