Jolla has started delivering the first Tablets to supporters of the Finnish company. In addition, the company has made its application store suitable for tablet apps, it was announced Friday.

Jolla reports that the developers who signed up for the loan program are the first to get their hands on the tablet. This is followed by the rest of the supporters, who have actually bought the tablet through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. Jolla does not mention an exact delivery date. The company says it first wants to see how the delivery to the first buyers is going.

Last month it became clear that the release of the Jolla Tablet was delayed. The Finns pulled the handbrake when it turned out that there were problems with the screen. Jolla had changed the type of display. The first display had problems with the implementation, but the insertion of the new screen also did not go smoothly.

Jolla also announced on Friday that it will soon release an SDK for the developers who have signed up for the loan program, or the Developer Device Loan Program. With that SDk, the developers can also make tablet applications for the Finnish operating system Sailfish OS. Jolla says the Harbor application store has now gained support for both phone and tablet apps.

The Scandinavian company, which in addition to the Jolla Tablet previously also introduced a Jolla Phone, has stopped developing hardware and is splitting that branch. The company will focus all its efforts on the further development of Sailfish. The intention is that other hardware manufacturers will license the software from the company. Indian company Intex is the first to do so.

Jolla was created several years ago when former Nokia engineers decided to continue working on the MeeGo operating system. Nokia and Intel co-developed that operating system, but the project ended when Nokia teamed up with Microsoft.
