Jolla gives tablet buyers money back
The Finnish Jolla is going to give money back to buyers of its Tablet. The company has announced that. After the postponement of last year, many components are no longer available and it is therefore not possible to produce the tablet for everyone.
Jolla says it shipped 121 tablets last year and will deliver 540 more, but the rest of the thousands of people who bought one will get their money back. Some of them will receive a refund ‘quickly’, the rest will have to wait. That’s because of the financial problems, says Jolla.
Due to problems with suppliers and displays, Jolla had to postpone the tablet, after which the company suddenly had no money left to pay suppliers last fall. This resulted in a further delay, as a result of which necessary components for the tablet are no longer available. As a result, Jolla can no longer have the Tablet made in large quantities.
Jolla raised money for the development of the Tablet through a campaign on Indiegogo. There were a total of 21,633 backers of the project on the crowdfunding site. Last year, Jolla announced that it was focusing on developing its Sailfish OS operating system and no longer developing its own hardware. Despite this, the company planned to ship its Tablet to all backers.
