The fictional hit man John Wick will soon get his third film of his own and in due course an action game will also be added. Mike Bithell is working with his studio on the game John Wick Hex. It will be a turn-based strategy game, with no release date yet.

Mike Bithell has the news on his Twitter account announced and a trailer released. Bithell is known for, among other things, puzzle platform game Thomas Was Alone and action game Volume. John Wick Hex is a turn-based strategy game with shooter elements and has similarities with the XCOM games in terms of playstyle and gameplay. The gameplay is described as ‘chess according to a combat-oriented choreography, brought to life in a video game’. In addition, the characteristic ‘gun fu style’ of the films is reflected in the game.

The player takes on the role of John Wick, although in the game it is a story that is further apart from the films about the trigger-happy and pencil-wielding assassin. As players progress through the game, more options for weapons, suits and locations will be unlocked. The game features cel shaded graphics, giving it a cartoonish visual style.

The game is co-created with the creative teams behind the films. Ian McShane and Lance Reddick, the actors who play the roles of owner and concierge of the Continental Hotel in the films respectively, will lend their voices to the game.

In any case, John Wick Hex will be released for Mac and PC and the game will initially only be available for purchase on the Epic Games Store. There will also be a console version, but for which consoles is not clear yet. Bithell says he has been working on the game as a writer and director for about a year, but a release date is still unknown.
