JJ Abrams: Portal movie script is now being written
After a long silence, it seemed as if the Portal movie was no longer coming, but the opposite turns out to be true. Film producer JJ Abrams says the film is still in active development. When the film will be released, however, remains unknown.
Abrams tells IGN that the script for the film is now being written. The producer doesn’t say which writers are working on the script, just that Warner Bros. is made. “We’re really excited about the direction the script is taking now, so it feels like the project is finally underway,” Abrams said.
The filmmaker goes on to say that the Portal world has “huge potential,” in part because the games’ narrative is “so limited.” Further details, such as who will direct the film or when the film should be released, are not mentioned in the article.
Gabe Newell and Abrams announced more than eight years ago that they were investigating plans for Portal and Half-Life films. So the talks about that Portal film are still ongoing. However, plans for a Half-Life movie have been shelved. “We’re not actively working on that right now,” Abrams says.
Portal is a puzzle game from Valve in which players take on the role of Chell. Chell is locked in an abandoned research center and must escape armed with a portal weapon. Two games have appeared in the series, the first part in 2007. Portal 2 appeared four years later. Valve may now be working on a successor in this series.
