Jide Releases Beta of Remix OS for PC with Dualboot Option on March 1
Developer Jide will release the public beta of Remix OS for PC on March 1. The new test version of the Android-based operating system contains bug fixes, as well as new functionality, such as over-the-air updates and support for dualboot and 32bit.
Jide promises to have squashed more than fifty bugs with the upcoming release of Remix OS for PC, but functionality has also been added compared to the alpha release, which appeared in January. For example, from the beta onwards, the operating system can be put on older PCs with 32-bit processors.
In addition, support for uefi is available and there will be an installer for a dual boot option, so that users can run the software alongside another operating system. The alpha version of the PC version still required the entire operating system to be reinstalled with an update, but the beta allows users to download updates over-the-air.
Jide emphasizes that support for Google Play Services and the Play Store is not yet available with the upcoming release. Google is said to be still testing the operating system. However, sideloading Play Services is possible. Jide was founded in 2014 by former Google employees who wanted to focus on a “productive” version of Android, including floating windows, an advanced file manager, taskbar, and mouse and keyboard support. The alpha version appeared on January 12 and is based on Android 5.0. That still seems to be the case in the beta.
