Jide Quits Android Desktop Remix OS and Refunds Kickstarter Backers
The company Jide stops developing Remix OS for consumers. Remix OS wanted to enable a desktop version of Android. The company targets the business market and refunds Kickstarter backers.
The company has put a statement on the homepage of its own site and on Facebook. In it, the Chinese developer states that requests have been received from companies in the past year to develop hardware and software for them. Due to the budget now available, Jide feels it has to choose and has dropped the choice in the business market.
In addition to Remix OS, Jide also developed hardware for the desktop version of Android and promoted it via Kickstarter. Those products won’t come out now, and Jide has decided to refund all Kickstarter backers. That will happen within ten days.
The hardware isn’t coming, but Jide is also canceling the final release of Remix OS for consumers. As a result, users cannot get started with the desktop version for Android. It is unknown for which companies Jide will develop tools.
