Standards organization Jedec has released an update for the existing DDR5 standard. The JESD79-5A DDR5 Sdram standard is mainly intended to increase the reliability and performance of DDR5.

The new standard will be on sale to manufacturers from this week, the organization writes. JESD79-5A is an addition to the existing specification for the DDR5 memory standard, which the organization released in July 2020.

The update includes several new features that should improve the reliability and yields of DDR5 memory, including support for bounded fault error correction. Soft Post-Package Repair, Memory Built-In Self-Test Post Package Repair and Adaptive RFM are also added to the specification. The maximum transfer speeds of DDR5 will also increase, to 6400 megatransfers per second for dram timings and to 5600MT/s for io/ac timings.

Several companies have endorsed the update, reports Jedec. These include, for example, platform providers AMD and Intel, memory manufacturers Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix, and memory interface maker Montage Technology.
