Japanese kitchen appliance manufacturer announces first smartphone

The Japanese company Balmuda has announced a smartphone. The announcement is striking, because the company mainly specializes in making kitchen appliances. The smartphone is currently only coming to Japan.

Balmuda is mainly known in Japan for its toasters and microwaves, but will announce its own smartphone on Tuesday. The Balmuda Phone not only stands out within the manufacturer’s range, but also has a special design. With a 4.9 “screen, the smartphone is a relatively small phone by today’s standards.

Under the hood it is a modern phone. The smartphone is equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765. The phone also supports 5G, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2.

The phone has a 2500 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C. The phone also has a 48-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The phone comes with Android 11.

In Japan, the phone costs about 800 euros. It is not known whether the smartphone will also be released outside of Japan by Balmuda.
