Screen manufacturer Japan Display has presented its first image sensor. It is a sensor for medical applications that can, among other things, recognize fingerprints and measure heart rate.

It is a bendable sensor that the company has developed with a university in the Japanese capital Tokyo, Japan Times reports based on an interview with a top executive. The sensor now also has a product page, which states that it is a sensor of 1.26×1.28 cm with pixels of 50 microns in size; it is therefore a sensor with a resolution of 256×252 pixels, with a density of 508 pixels per inch.

Japan Display expects the sensor to be used in the medical sector and for security. It is unknown when the delivery will start. The sensor can detect fingerprints and blood vessels at 4fps. With the move, Japan Display wants to generate more sales and profits. The company has been making losses for several years in a row.
