Japan Display Announces 7″ WhiteMagic Panel with 2560×1600 Pixels
Japan Display has announced a 7″ panel with RGBW pixel layout and a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. It is the first so-called WhiteMagic panel intended for tablet manufacturers.
The Japanese consortium, made up of Toshiba, Hitachi and Sony, has announced that the new panel will be on display from June 3-5 during Sid Display Week in San Diego. For the time being, it is unclear which manufacturers will use the WhiteMagic panel in tablets. In addition, Japan Display did not know when the announced panel will go into mass production. More may become clear about this as soon as the screen is shown to the general public.
According to the consortium, the 7″ panel features WhiteMagic technology, adding a white sub-pixel to the traditional RGB pixel layout. The panel, an IPS-type LCD, has a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, which allows the pixel density is 431 ppi. The brightness of the 7″ panel is 500cd/m2 and the contrast ratio is 2200:1.
Last year, Japan Display announced a WhiteMagic panel with a diagonal of 5″ and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. WhiteMagic is the trademark of the consortium and was first used in Sony’s Xperia P smartphone.
