IXsystems downgrades recent release FreeNAS Corral to technology preview

Developer iXsystems has announced that it has downgraded FreeNAS 10 Corral, which was released in March, to technology preview and continues to develop version 9.10. The new release is not stable enough for use, according to the organization.

In an announcement, iXsystems announces that the project leader of the Corral release has recently left. This fact, together with the fact that many users went back to earlier versions of the software, have led the organization to come to the current decision. In a published FAQ, iXsystems reports that the focus is now on the further development of version 9.10 and that certain functions from version 10, or Corral, will be included in this stable version.

Shortly after the release of Corral, it became clear that many users were experiencing problems due to instability, lack of functionality comparable to the previous version, and disappointing performance. The development team concluded that it would be faster to bring new features to version 9.10 than to fix all the problems of version 10. As a result, the developers say they still want to offer stability and new functionality. A new release, version 9.10.3, is currently scheduled for May.

Corral came out in March and brought several new features in addition to a revamped interface, including support for Docker containers. Users can use the software, which has been around since 2005, to set up a system as a network storage NAS. IXsystems itself also supplies network storage devices with the software.
