iOS update makes replaced touchscreen work on iPhones
Recent iPhones with touchscreens that have been replaced have started working again with the iOS 11.3.1 update that Apple released. The issues with auto-brightness and the TrueTone feature will persist after the update.
The touchscreen of devices with an ‘aftermarket’ screen works again after the update, reports iFixit. iOS 11.3.1 includes a fix for an issue that caused iPhones with unofficial displays to stop functioning in iOS 11.3. The pixels themselves still worked, but the touch functionality turned out to be no longer working.
With that, Apple has solved one of the problems that have arisen after repairs of new iPhones. Some other problems remain. For example, the automatic brightness function no longer works and TrueTone, where the software adjusts the color temperature of the screen to ambient light, is not active. It is unknown if and when Apple will release solutions for this. In addition, iFixit has drawn attention to the finding that the BatteryHealth function in iOS 11.3 does not work with replaced batteries. The problems that occur after repairs came to light two weeks ago.
