iOS 15.4 beta includes feature to use Face ID with face mask
The first developer beta of iOS 15.4 includes an option that allows Face ID to be used with a face mask. Screenshots show that users with a face mask are not allowed to wear sunglasses if they want to use facial recognition successfully.
In the new settings menu of the beta version of iOS 15.4, there is an option to use Face ID with a face mask. Under that option it is written that Face ID is able to recognize unique appearances around the eyes of users but also that the facial recognition works most accurately when it can analyze an entire face. A user with a face mask must also look straight at the iPhone in question to be able to use Face ID successfully.
Screenshots also show that users who want to activate the new feature will now have the option to perform a new face scan while wearing glasses. According to Apple, the option to use Face ID with a face mask works best when the facial recognition is redone while the user is wearing his or her glasses.
The discovery was made by journalists from MacRumors and Twitter user Brandon Butch† They shared screenshots in which the new function can be seen, but it is not clear whether the function can also be used. Face ID is the infrared facial recognition that Apple introduced in 2017 and has been building in all its top iPhone models since the iPhone X.
