IO Data has announced a USB graphics adapter that can display 4k resolutions on a suitable monitor. The adapter uses the DL-5500 chipset that can be connected to a PC or laptop via a USB 3.0 connection.

According to the manufacturer, the 4K USB Graphics Adapter allows PCs and laptops to output 4k video, even if they don’t have a graphics card capable of outputting the UHD resolutions. The adapter from IO Data supports the resolution of 3840×2160 pixels thanks to the DL-5500 chipset from DisplayLink and the adapter also has a displayport output.

It is not yet known when IO Data will launch the USB adapter. The price is also still unknown. The company does, however, show a prototype at Computex 2014 and IO Data declares that a market introduction will follow ‘soon’.

Simultaneously with the announcement, DisplayLink announces the arrival of the DL-5700 chipset, which not only outputs 4k video, but also offers audio and Ethernet support over a single USB connection. Products based on the chipset would soon be on the market.
