InXile Releases The Bard’s Tale IV PC Version On September 18

Developer inXile Entertainment will release the PC version of The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep on September 18. Later this year, the role-playing game will also come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but no release date has yet been announced for the console versions.

InXile mentions the release date of the PC version in a tweet and also on the game’s Steam page the date is now mentioned. Players who contributed to the crowdfunding campaign for the game on Kickstarter can now get started with a beta version of the game. InXile raised more than $1.5 million to create the game.

The first part of The Bard’s Tale appeared in 1985 and two more sequels appeared that same decade. A new The Bard’s Tale game was released in 2004, created by Brian Fargo and published by inXile Entertainment. At the time, however, the creators only had the rights to the name and not to the content and story.

For The Bard’s Tale IV, the makers have all rights to the series and the new game is therefore seen as a full fourth part. It is a single-player RPG with a first-person perspective, set in a game world based on Scotland. In the game, players control a party of up to six characters and battles are turn-based.

The story of The Bard’s Tale IV is fully narrated and contains thirty hours of music. According to the developer, the game contains about thirty hours of gameplay. InXile has revived more old RPGs in recent years. For example, the developer released Wasteland 2 in 2014, as a successor to the first part from 1988. In the meantime, Wasteland 3 is also being worked on.
