InWin shows striking housings on Computex
In an effort to stand out from the crowd, manufacturer InWin has showcased a number of striking housing designs. The most eye-catching is a housing folded from a single sheet of aluminum.
The S-Frame, as the ‘open-air’ housing is called, consists of a sheet of aluminum that is folded fifteen times. This results in an approximately s-shaped housing, where the motherboard is attached to one of the bends. The power supply and hard drives are at the ends of the s-shape. The housing is made of 4mm thick aluminum, but it is not completely open: side panels are made of tempered glass on both sides. Four drives fit in the housing and for cooling you can choose water cooling up to 360mm or three air coolers.
The housing is available in two variants: a black version with red edges and an aluminum one. The housing will be produced in limited edition: InWin could only produce fifty per month. The limited availability and the design are somewhat reminiscent of Thermaltake’s Level 10 housing: it turns out that it is manufactured by InWin. A price is not known, however.
Slightly more accessible are the D-Frame mini-housings. These are also open housings, but are made of aluminum tubes and are supplied in various colours. The sides have tempered glass panels and the lightweight housings fit mitx motherboards, together three 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives and two 2.5″ drives. There is room for two 120mm fans at the bottom. The striking housing should get a suggested retail price of $350.
