Intel website shows Core i7-6950X with 3.5GHz speed and 25MB cache

Intel itself makes mention of the Core i7-6950X for the first time. There have been rumors for some time about this processor, which will probably get ten cores. A support page from Intel shows that the chip has a maximum speed of 3.5GHz and gets 25MB L3 cache.

Intel will list the processor in an update to the Intel Management Engine software. As a result, the Intel Core i7-6950X also got its own download page. In addition to the product name, speed and amount of cache, no official information has yet been released, but information about the new Extreme Edition processor was leaked in November and more details appeared in December.

Presumably, the Intel i7-6950X will be the top model of the Broadwell-E processors, which succeed the Haswell-E chips. The new CPUs will be baked at 14nm instead of 22nm and can be placed in lga2011-v3 sockets just like their predecessors. According to earlier rumors, the i7-6950X will have access to a maximum of forty PCI-e lanes.

It would be the first time that Intel provides a processor for consumers with ten cores. The processor may therefore be more expensive than previous top models, which almost always had a price tag of 999 euros. Intel is rumored to announce four Broadwell-E processors at Computex 2016, which opens on May 31 in Taiwan.

Models in the Xeon series for servers and workstations already ship with more cores. Last week, Intel presented the Xeon E5-2600 v4 series, based on the Broadwell-EP architecture, with the E5-2699 v4 as the top model, which has 22 cores.
