Intel wants to develop wearables in collaboration with other companies

Intel has said it plans to partner with other companies to release wearables such as smartwatches and fitness trackers. With that, it seems to be putting aside Basis, the maker of fitness bracelets that it took over in 2014.

Speaking to Engadget, Jerry Bautista, who holds the title of vice president of wearables at Intel, spoke about his company’s strategy. The intention is to release wearables in the future that are made in collaboration with other companies. This could include watchmakers for the release of a smartwatch, for example. Incidentally, Intel did not disclose details of devices that should be released this year.

With the strategy of collaborating, it seems that Intel is choosing not to release wearables under its own name. That is striking because with Basis it has a wearable maker within its ranks. Intel took over this fitness bracelet manufacturer in 2014, but has not yet achieved any success with it.

Earlier there were rumors that Intel would put the making of wearables on the ice. A large number of employees would be laid off within the New Devices Group, which also includes wearables.
