Intel wants to build chip factory in Magdeburg, Germany
Intel plans to build a new chip factory in Magdeburg, according to a German regional medium. The company previously considered building such a chip factory in the Benelux. The manufacturer would like to announce the plans next Friday.
It is not clear why Intel would have chosen the location in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The regional medium MDR does write that the region has many ‘attractive commercial areas’. In addition, there is a university where Intel could source IT talent. About a thousand people could work in the factory. It is not clear what capacity the factory should have.
Volksstimme wrote in November that 500 hectares of land were being sought for the factory, but that only 360 hectares were for sale at the time. It was then said that the new factory would have room for about 1,500 employees.
Intel has been talking about a new European chip factory for some time. For this, the company wants to receive a subsidy of billions of euros, which could be done with the European Chip Act. Earlier, Intel considered building the factory in the Benelux.
