Intel to release Core i9-9900KS and Cascade Lake-X CPUs in October
Intel is going to release its Core i9-9900KS, which reaches 5GHz on all cores, in October. It is not yet known what the CPU will cost. The Cascade Lake-X processors will also be released on the hedt platform next month. Those are the successors of Skylake-X.
Intel announced the processor news at the IFA fair in a presentation that emphasized the competition with AMD. Intel showed slides in which its own processors perform better in field tests and the manufacturer also paid attention to the fact that Ryzen 3000 owners report that they do not always achieve the stated maximum boost speed.
According to Intel, the Core i9-9900KS will go on sale from next month. Intel presented that processor during the Computex. It is a special version of the existing i9-9900K that is clocked higher and achieves a turbo speed of 5GHz on all eight cores. The regular version does 4.7GHz on all cores. It is not yet clear what the additional cost of the KS version is.
In the presentation, Intel also showed a slide about the Cascade Lake-X processors for the hedt platform. According to Intel, they will offer much better value for money than the current Skylake-X variants and also offer better “performance per dollar” than the Ryzen Threadripper processors. However, Intel does not clarify the benchmarks used and prices and specifications of the Cascade Lake-X CPUs are not yet known; the claims are therefore not verifiable.
The Cascade Lake-X processors are the consumer variants of the Cascade Lake-SP server processors in the Xeon series announced earlier this year. These are processors that are made at 14nm and there will be variants with a maximum of 18 cores. The current Core i9-7980XE with 18 cores costs more than 2100 euros. That processor is part of the Skylake-X generation that was introduced two years ago.
