Intel starts delivery of mobile quad-cores with probably its most powerful GPU krachtig
Intel has started shipping new Skylake processors for laptops and desktops. Among the new models are three new Core i7s and a Core i5, which are believed to have the graphics Iris Pro 580 chip on board. That is Intel’s most powerful GPU to date.
It concerns four quad-cores for laptops: three Core i7s with support for HyperThreading and a Core i5 without that support. The price list for January does not include the GPU and the TDP, but it is probably the first processors with the Iris Pro 580. This can be deduced from the higher price compared to other models and the earlier announcement that the chips with the powerful GPU would appear in early 2016.
The Iris Pro 580 or GT4e is Intel’s most powerful graphics chip yet. The chip offers 72 execution units compared to 48 EUs for the GT3, Intel’s previously most powerful video chip. In addition, 128MB edram is present compared to 64MB with which the GT3 can be equipped. Manufacturers such as Lenovo, MSI, Asus and Apple will probably build the new processors into their high-end laptops.
In addition, Intel has announced new Xeons for mobile workstations that will probably also feature the powerful graphics chips. Intel announced the arrival of the Skylake-Xeons for laptops with GT4e GPUs last year. Finally, faster Braswell-based Celerons and Pentiums will appear in the near future, as well as new Celerons based on Skylake architecture.
