Intel site confirms existence of 1851 socket for Meteor Lake processors
The Intel Meteor Lake processors will get a new socket: LGA 1851. This is stated on an Intel site itself. It was previously rumored that the Meteor Lake processors would get the 1851 socket, but now Intel itself more or less confirms that.
The references can be found in a xml file from Intel’s site for design tools, writes ComputerBase. It can be deduced from this that it concerns LGA 1851. It was expected that a new socket would be introduced. Sockets at Intel usually last two generations, so a new socket would be planned for Meteor Lake.
The dimensions of the 1851 are the same as the 1700, but there are more pins than the current socket. The socket is probably compatible with current coolers. Meteor Lake is Intel’s first 7nm processor, referred to by the manufacturer as Intel 4. Earlier this year, the manufacturer showed a die shot of Meteor Lake. It will be Intel’s first consumer processor with chiplets. The CPU cores come from Intel’s own factories. TSMC will make the GPU.
