Following the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K for the desktop introduced in August, Intel is releasing a host of mainstream desktop processors, mobile processors for laptops and socs for tablets, based on the Skylake architecture.

Intel comes with Core i3, i5 and i7 processors and Pentiums for the desktop, while the new H, U and Y series have been announced for laptops. For tablets and hybrids, the Core M series is divided into three variants: the M3, M5 and M7.

Skylake brings support for ddr4, while ddr3 memory is no longer supported: only the economical ddr3l works with the generation. The desktop chips and the powerful H-series for laptops are combined with the Series 100 chipset, but the economical Y and U-series for mobile devices have integrated platform I/O.

Intel has made numerous improvements to ensure higher performance and lower consumption. In particular, the graphics processing power has increased and some Skylake processors are equipped with the new GT4 GPU with 72 execution units, where the maximum at Broadwell was 48. The GPUs also offer support for the latest APIs such as DirectX 12, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.4.

At the IFA trade show in Berlin, which kicks off on Wednesday, laptop and desktop manufacturers will introduce their first models with the Skylake processors.
