Intel recalls boxed versions of Xeon E-2274G due to undersized cooler
Intel has recalled the boxed versions of the Xeon E2274G CPU because the supplied CPU cooler is not effective enough for the chip. Intel stops offering the boxed version of the CPU. The company is offering a tray variant of the processor as a replacement.
This week, Intel issued a product change notification, urging users to return the boxed version of the Xeon E-2274G CPU. This model comes standard with a CPU cooler, but it is not suitable for the processor. The E-2274G has a TDP of 83W, while the cooler is intended for CPUs with a TDP of up to 65W. The product change notification is available in a downloadable PDF.
The boxed version of the E-2274G is immediately discontinued. The chip manufacturer offers users a tray version of the CPU as a replacement, without the supplied cooler. This chip is otherwise identical to the boxed variant, so users can in principle continue to use the CPU with another cooler.
The Xeon E-2274G has four cores with Hyperthreading and uses socket LGA-1151, which is also used by today’s Coffee Lake consumer CPUs. The CPU is therefore not part of Intel’s hedt platform. The CPU cooler that was included was the average Intel cooler, with a circular design and a single 90mm fan on top.
