Intel plans to raise product prices by up to 20 percent
Intel will increase the prices of its products this fall, says Nikkei Asia. One of the sources says a twenty percent price increase is mentioned, although it could be less for other products. The company would like to increase the majority of all prices.
The chipmaker would now inform customers of upcoming price hikes, chip industry executives say against Nikkei Asia. It would concern products such as CPUs for both PCs and servers, but also other components, such as WiFi chips.
Intel would not yet have decided how much the prices will rise. Presumably, the company does not want all prices to rise by the same percentage. One of the sources says that some products are likely to increase by a few percent, but other product prices could increase by 10 or 20 percent, or even more.
Nikkei Asia notes that the market has an uncertain future, making it difficult to determine product prices. On the one hand, many things in the supply chain are becoming more expensive, such as materials, shipping and labor. The high inflation in turn means that customers have less to spend on products. Intel said it was already investigating price increases with its quarterly figures. The company now confirms to inform customers within the sector about those price increases.
