Intel partners with manufacturers to provide more laptops with second screens
During the Computex, Intel showed the Honeycomb Glacier, a concept laptop with a second screen above the keyboard. The chip company wants more laptop manufacturers to equip models with such a screen, just as Asus has done with its ZenBook Pro Duo.
Honeycomb Glacier is a 15.6″ laptop with a 1080p display, which has a second 12.3″ display with a resolution of 1920×720 pixels on the body, above the keyboard. That second screen contains a hinge and can therefore be moved upwards. The primary screen is attached to the secondary screen so that it also pops up.
According to The Verge, the prototype has an overclocked octacore, presumably the Core i9-9980HK, and a GTX 1060 from GeForce. These don’t seem to be parts that Intel is specifically pushing forward with other manufacturers looking to make similar models. Intel does make it clear that the extra space under the screen can be used for better cooling systems.
Intel further emphasizes the gaming possibilities of this screen. For example, this panel should display maps, equipment, status and other features in games. In addition, the screen would help to simultaneously game and stream images, for example to respond to messages from viewers. Intel focuses strongly on the lucrative game market and partly for this reason is probably working on its own Xe GPU for separate video cards.
Intel cites the ZenBook Pro Duo with ScreenPad Plus as the first result of collaboration with manufacturers for comparable laptops like the Honeycomb Glacier. It is not known which other manufacturers are working on these types of laptops, although Lenovo recently showed a ThinkPad with two screens.
