Intel lists names of first Apollo Lake processors

Intel has released the names of the first six Apollo Lake processors. It concerns two Pentiums and four Celerons. Earlier, Intel announced that the chips for entry-level desktops and laptops should appear in the second half of this year.

The product change notification list includes three N-series processors for entry-level laptops and convertibles, while three J-line chips for affordable mini PCs and other budget desktop systems are on the way. The processors follow the Braswell generation and are produced at 14nm just like those socs, but also have a changed architecture: the chips get Goldmont cores. In practice, the socs get up to four cores and 1MB L2 cache is available per two cores. Manufacturers can combine the Apollo Lake processors with lpddr3 and lpddr4.

Intel announced Apollo Lake in mid-April and then also said that the chips will be available in the second half of the year. According to Intel, the platform offers better performance than Braswell with lower consumption. The TDP is 6W to 10W. At Computex 2016, Intel showed some features of the platform, claiming that the performance of the Goldmont CPUs is 30 percent higher than Braswell. At least that’s the interpretation of AnandTech forum members.
