“Intel is working on Google Glass variant with RealSense-3d camera”
Intel is working on a prototype for Google Glass-like augmented reality glasses with RealSense cameras, according to business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. Manufacturers could then market those glasses with their own design.
There are no details about the functions or uses of those glasses in the article from The Wall Street Journal. Intel does not confirm the rumor, but says it is building prototypes more often to convince companies to use its components. In this case, it would be the RealSense camera, which can see depth and track movement. The company has previously built a smartphone to convince phone manufacturers of the usefulness of RealSense.
Since the Google Glass prototype flopped, industry attention has shifted to virtual reality, although Microsoft is also developing an augmented reality application with HoloLens. Augmented reality is mixing the real world with online information and virtual images. For example, it is possible to play games with virtual elements that take place in the real world. It is unknown if there are any manufacturers that want to use the RealSense camera in a Google Glass-like application.
