Intel is setting up an independent company that will work on generative AI
Intel establishes Articul8 AI, an independent company that will work on generative AI for businesses. The new company will use software developed by Intel for this purpose. Intel starts Articul8 together with investment company DigitalBridge.
Articul8 continues the AI work that Intel previously did for Boston Consulting Group, Intel reports in a press release. The chipmaker previously trained an AI platform for BCG on a supercomputer with Xeon processors and Gaudi AI accelerators. That platform is now being scaled up into a separate company that will offer the platform to enterprise customers.
Articul8’s AI services will provide generative AI capabilities for companies in industries that “require a high degree of security and specialized domain knowledge,” such as financial services, aerospace, semiconductors and telecom, according to Intel.
Arun Subramaniyan, previously vice president and general manager of Intel’s data center and AI division, will become CEO of Articul8. According to Intel, it will be an independent company. Intel remains a shareholder in Articul8, but it is not known what percentage of the shares the chipmaker holds.
Intel has recently converted business units into independent companies more often. For example, Mobileye, which is working on chips for autonomous driving vehicles, is now a separate and listed company. Intel’s FPGA division, the former Altera, has also been split off since January 1 and will be listed on the stock exchange in the future. For Articul8 states according to Reuters no IPO planned.
