Intel introduces the first Haswell Refresh CPUs for system builders
Intel added 43 new processors to its range on Monday. These are CPUs in the so-called Haswell Refresh series that have slightly higher clock speeds than existing, comparable models. The chips are intended for system builders.
It concerns the tray versions of 26 desktop processors and 17 processors for laptops. The desktop models are Core chips, Pentiums and Celerons that in most cases are clocked 100MHz higher than the existing models that are a step lower on Intel’s price list. Only the S and T models are 200MHz ahead.
The models are available for system builders and the price applies to purchase in large quantities. The boxed versions will be available in May, along with motherboards based on the Series 9 chipset: the Z97 and H97. The 9 Series gets a new version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and with it support for ‘Intel RST for PCI Express Storage’. In addition, there will be new management and security functionality.
The laptop chips are five new quad-core processors and four dual-cores with a TDP of 37W, which run 100MHz faster. In addition, there are six Core chips for ultrabooks with a TDP of 15W and two Y models appear with an even lower consumption. These processors get a 200MHz higher clock speed.
