Intel introduces frugal Core i3 dual-core with Turbo for laptops
Intel has announced the Core i3-8130U. It is an addition to the Kaby Lake Refresh line for energy-efficient laptops and 2-in-1 systems, of which Intel announced the first processors last August. The Core i3 supports Turbo.
Just like the Kaby Lake Refresh chips in the economical U series announced last August, the Core i3 is a processor with a TDP of 15W. Unlike the Core i5 and Core i7 models, however, it is not a quad-core but a dual-core, which does have HyperThreading.
The base clock is around that of last year’s Kaby Lake-Core i3s, but the difference with those processors is that the Core i3-8130U has Turbo support, which brings the peak clock speed to 3.4GHz. According to Intel, the Core i3 will soon be available in laptops and 2-in-1 PCs.
