Intel has released a new stepping of its Atom C2000 processors. The revision should fix the clock output defects that caused the chips to stop functioning.

Intel announces the arrival of the C0 stepping in a specification update for the Atom C2000. In the modified design, the lpc interface has been modified, which should solve the problems with the lpc clock output. With the current C2000, that output can stop functioning, causing the entire chip to fail.

The issue affected products from many manufacturers, including Dell, Cisco, HP, Netgear, Seagate, Supermicro, and Synology. Some of them had set up replacement programs. For example, Cisco had set aside $125 million for costs related to the problem.

The defects concerned the B0 stepping of the Atom C2000 chips with type numbers C2308, C2338, C2350, C2358, C2508, C2518, C2530, C2538, C2550, C2558, C2718, C2730, C2738, C2750 and C2758.
