Intel engineer François Piednoël leaves chipmaker after 20 years
François Piednoël, who worked for a long time as a principal engineer at Intel, recently left the company. He has worked there since 1997 and has contributed to several projects over time, including the Skulltrail platform.
piednoël made announced his decision on Twitter. He wrote that he no longer wanted to work at Intel and that it is time for “new adventures”. A predictable question, namely whether he would go to AMD, he answered with the exclamation ‘never!’. He later explained that he knows too much about Intel and that’s probably why lawyers would be knocking on his door soon. He says he does have friends at the Intel competitor.
While he didn’t disclose what his next step would be at first, left he know Monday that it will have something to do with artificial intelligence. During his time at Intel, Piednoël led a team of 45 people who dealt with, among other things, processor performance. Furthermore, the Frenchman is also called the ‘father of Skulltrail’, which Intel introduced in 2008 as a platform for gamers.
In addition, he has worked on the architectures of other platforms such as Katmai, Conroe, Penryn and Nehalem. He was also involved as a consultant in the development of Skylake and Kaby Lake. Through a LinkedIn message, Piednoël says that he is touched by all the messages he has received as a result of his announcement.
