Intel employee: Intel DG2 GPUs for gaming ‘just around the corner’
Intel’s game developer relations engineer has confirmed that Intel’s upcoming Xe HPG graphics cards, also known as DG2, are coming soon. In a vacancy he writes that these gaming GPUs are ‘on the doorstep’.
The Intel employee, Pete Brubaker, writes on Twitter: “Join us at Intel! DG2 is just around the corner and it’s going to be exciting.” Brubaker tweeted that Intel is looking for a senior game developer relations engineer. That’s an employee who helps game developers optimize their code for Intel products and apply new technologies in their games.
This is not yet concrete confirmation of an Intel DG2 release date; independently of a previous confirmation Intel that its DG2 GPUs will be released in 2021, the company has not yet disclosed much about the GPUs. Intel previously stated that the video cards support hardware ray tracing. The company also mentioned at its Architecture Day 2020 event that the production of its Xe HPG chips will be outsourced to a third-party semiconductor manufacturer. According to previous rumors, the GPUs would be made on the 6nm process of TSMC, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Earlier this year, some details about Intel’s DG2 video cards appeared on the company’s website. It turned out that Intel would release at least five different models, with a maximum of 512 execution units and 4096 shading units. The highest-ranking video card may also receive 16GB of GDDR6 memory with a 256-bit memory bus. The DG2 GPUs would be available as separate video cards for both laptops and desktops.
