Intel Core i9-12950HX laptop chip with 16 cores and 24 threads appears online
New Alder Lake CPUs for laptops have appeared online. Those are unannounced HX variants. Processors with 16 cores and 24 threads have appeared, including an i9-12950HX. Current Alder Lake laptop models have up to 14 cores and 20 threads.
The Alder Lake-HX processors recently appeared in the Geekbench database and have been tested in laptops from Lenovo, noted Twitter user BenchLeaks. These 16-core laptop CPUs are said to be based on Alder Lake chips for desktops, also writes VideoCardz. This means they have more CPU cores and fewer GPU cores than the current Alder Lake-H laptop chips.
This includes a Intel Core i9-12950HX and Core i7-12850HX, which both have 8 P-cores and 8 E-cores for a total of 16 cores and 24 threads. That’s equivalent to the current Core i9-12900 processors for desktops. Intel also comes with a Core i5-12600HX, according to another Geekbench listing. That processor will have 12 cores and 16 threads, just like the current Core i5-12600H for laptops. That configuration is not available in a desktop chip.
The i9-12950HX variant has a base clock of 2.5GHz, a maximum boost speed of 4.9GHz and 30MB L3 cache. The Core i7-12850HX has a base clock of 2.4GHz, a boost clock of up to 4.7GHz and 25MB L3 cache. The Core i5-12600HX should have a base clock of 2.8GHz, a boost clock of 4.6GHz and 18MB L3 cache.
All HX variants also get an integrated GPU with 32 execution units, where previous laptop models have GPUs with 96 EUs. The Alder Lake processors for desktops also have integrated GPUs with 32 execution units. It is not known when Intel will release the new HX processors. Wccftech writes that this might happen in May or June.
