A Canadian tech journalist ran Cinebench on an HP Omen PC equipped with an Intel Core i7-8700K CPU. The processor with six cores and twelve threads, which has not yet been officially announced, achieved 1230 points in the multicore test.

Karl Morin, who runs a YouTube channel under the name MrTechQc, streamed a live video on Facebook showing him running the benchmark. The multicore score is about 26 percent higher than what a Core i7-7700K achieves in the same benchmark. That’s an eight-thread quadcore, though; the gain thus comes from the increase in the number of cores and threads.

Morin also performed the test in which one core is loaded. This resulted in a score of 196 points. Slightly higher than the 191 points that a Core i7-7700K achieves. The Core i7-8700K ran at a base clock of 3.7GHz and probably has a maximum turbo of 4.3GHz with all cores active and 4.7GHz with one core active. However, it is not known at what speed the CPU ran during the test.

Morin attended an event where an HP Omen PC with the new Intel processor was on display. No monitor was connected, but Morin disconnected another monitor and connected it to the PC, then ran Cinebench.

More information came out this weekend about the possible price of the Coffee Lake CPUs. A German webshop lists prices for almost all models. Meanwhile, Gigabyte seems to have confirmed that the Z370 motherboards will be announced on October 5. The company mentions that date in a teaser. Earlier it was rumored that Intel will announce its Coffee Lake-S CPUs for desktops on that date.

Furthermore, photos of the non-K version of the Core i7-8700 have appeared on Reddit. These show both the front and the back and show that the pin design is the same as that of the seventh generation CPUs. Nevertheless, a new motherboard is needed to use the eighth generation CPUs.

On Friday, VideoCardz already published photos and specifications of Gigabyte Aorus motherboards with the Intel Z370 chipset. Earlier last week, images of motherboards from ASRock and MSI came out. An Intel roadmap showed that Z390 motherboards will also be available at the end of next year.
