Intel confirms Meteor Lake brand change, may call CPUs ‘Core Ultra’

In the run-up to the release of the Meteor Lake generation, Intel confirms that changes are coming to the brand’s marketing. At the same time, there are rumors that the company will from now on provide its consumer CPUs with a Core Ultra prefix.

The confirmation comes from the director of global communications Bernard Fernandes, who writes in a tweet that Intel will ‘make brand changes in preparation for the release of Meteor Lake’. The changes would mark a turning point for consumer hardware. Official details about the actual rebrand are still scarce; Intel promises to share more information about the changes in the coming weeks.

The tweet, on the other hand, comes at the same time as the suggestion of several leakers that Intel will drop the ‘i’ denominator and possibly put Ultra in front of the CPU names. In addition, one recently appeared benchmark of the unannounced Intel Core Ultra 5 1003H laptop processor in the benchmark database of the game Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation. The name changes would therefore be implemented based on that chipset with the introduction of Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs later this year. It’s unclear whether the change would apply to both the company’s laptop and desktop chips.
