Intel comes with new stepping of Braswell Celeron and Pentium socs

Intel announces a new stepping of three Braswell-socs. Intel not only gives the new models slightly higher turbo speeds, but also replaces a letter in the name. The J chips can be used by manufacturers from January 2016.

Intel presented the Braswell-socs in March. The socs produced at 14nm can be found in mini PCs, laptops, tablets and on small motherboards with onboard processors from various manufacturers. Improvements in the production process have now made the move to the new D-stepping possible. Intel announces the changes that this entails compared to the C-stepping in a PDF.

In concrete terms, it concerns three socs, each of which has a slightly higher turbo speed. A reader from Anandtech discovered the precise speed increases. The Celeron J3060, a dual-core, gets the biggest increase: from 2.16 to 2.48 GHz. Intel not only increases the type number with 10 with the new socs, but also puts a J instead of an N before the number. The Pentium J3710 gets a slightly higher TDP of 6.5 watts. With the Celeron-socs, the tdp remains 6 watts. Intel also adjusts the naming of the graphics in the socs. The GPU with 12 execution units in the Celerons goes through life as HD 400, while the Pentium with 16 eu’s gets an HD 405 designation.

Intel is already sending samples of the new socs to manufacturers. Braswell’s D-stepping should be available for large-scale production by January 2016.
