“Intel comes with economical Kaby Lake Refresh quad-cores for laptops”

Intel is said to be planning to release Kaby Lake Refresh processors in the second half of 2017 that would appear as “the 8th Core Generation.” It would be quad-cores in the U-line of economical chips. Kaby Lake H processors with a TDP of 18W have to make way for the Refresh line.

The arrival of the Kaby Lake Refresh quad-cores in August is evidenced by a roadmap published by Benchlife, who is usually well-informed about Intel’s plans. An Intel announcement states that it is the eighth generation, indicating that the processors will receive Core i 8000 designations, where the current Kaby Lake processors appear in the 7000 line.

Intel also states that the company has decided not to release the Kaby Lake H processor with a TDP of 18W in order to focus on the Kaby Lake Refresh. This processor in the H-series, also an economical quad-core for laptops, would already be released in the second quarter of 2017, according to previously leaked plans.

It is not known what the tdp of the Kaby Lake Refresh processors will be, but it is probably 15W, just like the other U chips. In addition, it appears from the report that it will have the same GPU as the current Kaby Lake chips: the Graphics 630 or the GT2.

In addition to Kaby Lake Refresh, Intel comes with Coffee Lake. This is a generation that is again produced at 14nm, but has a modified architecture. The Coffee Lake U processors for laptops are also quadcores, but the GPU is the Graphics 640, or GT3e, with 64MB edram. There will also be Coffee Lake H processors: chips with six cores for powerful laptops. Intel’s first 10nm socs are the Cannonlake models in the U and Y series. These should also be published in the second half of 2017.

Intel describes the H-series as processors for high performance graphics. Until now, the HQ models have been the quad cores, with a tdp of 45W. Intel is expected to announce the Kaby Lake HQ processors in early 2017.
