Intel China’s official social media channels have confirmed that a Raptor Lake refresh is coming, with the “14th Gen Core i” moniker being given to the S and HX series. The company also confirms a Raptor Lake-U refresh and Meteor Lake with the new Core denominator.

Intel China is trying to clarify the names for the upcoming processor series in several social media posts, said VideoCardz. The company announced in mid-June that the “i” prefix will be removed from future Core processor names, but that’s not entirely true.

The now confirmed Raptor Lake refresh will have two brand names. One is the continuation of the current designation: 14th Gen Core i models for the Raptor Lake HX and S refreshes. Of these, HX CPUs are intended for laptop flagships and S processors for desktops. In addition, as part of the next generation, a refresh of mobile Raptor Lake U CPUs will be released with new names: Intel Core 3, 5 and 7 versions.

The same new Core designation also applies to the upcoming Meteor Lake processors; According to Chinese channels, Intel does not indeed release desktop variants, but only laptop processors under the name Core Ultra 5, 7 and 9. The names Core and Core Ultra are intended to distinguish between the refresh versions based on Raptor Lake and the newer and probably faster Meteor, respectively. Lake chips, which are released as one generation.

The information was originally published on the Chinese social media on June 16 Bilibili and was shared again a week later via Weibo. The new names and possible upcoming refreshes have been at the center of various rumors for months, but so far Intel appears to have shared no official information about this. It is not clear why the updated processors have not yet been officially announced in the West.
