Intel cancels its Developer Forum event
Intel has announced that there will be no Developer Forum events in the future. The company says it is looking for new ways to communicate with its customers. New products were usually shown at the events.
Intel posted a notice on the IDF site, which was spotted by Anandtech. In it, it thanks for “almost twenty years of IDF” and refers the company to public sources with information about its products. Intel had previously announced that its event in China would not take place, but now it appears that the same applies to the event in San Francisco in the US. Last year, for example, Intel showed its Optane SSD at the Developer Forum in China.
In a statement to Anandtech, Intel said it “has changed a lot from a PC company to a data company in the past two to three years.” Due to developments such as artificial intelligence, FPGAs, Optane, internet-of-things and automotive, an event such as the Developer Forum would no longer be sufficient to disseminate information. Intel says it is looking for new ways to shape this process. For example, on the basis of smaller, specialized events.
The first Developer Forum was held in 1997. There were usually two events per year, one in the spring and the other in the fall.
