Intel announces specs and prices of i5, i7 and i9 CPUs in 14th generation

Intel has announced the arrival of the first six desktop processors in the fourteenth generation Core. The Core i5 14600K, Core i7 14700K, Core i9 14900K and the IGPU-less F versions of each model will be released on Tuesday afternoon.

The fourteenth generation Core for the desktop consists of the so-called Raptor Lake Refresh, or a fresh coat of paint for the existing processors from the thirteenth generation. So nothing has changed in the Intel 7 production process used and the architecture of the chips. The performance gain for the Core i5 and i9 models should primarily come from slightly higher clock speeds for both the P and E cores.

The exception to that rule is the Core i7 14700K, which has more E-cores compared to its predecessor. That model has one cluster of four more E-cores enabled than the i7 13700K, which also leads to increases in the L2 and L3 caches. The performance jump of the i7 model can therefore be a lot more significant than with the other two CPUs.

Furthermore, much remains the same. The i5 14600K, i7 14700K and i9 14900K fit in the same socket 1700 as their predecessors, including boards that still have DDR4 slots and work with the existing chipsets. The higher official memory speed that was rumored does not materialize; it is still DDR5-5600 in the new generation. In practice, much higher memory speeds are usually possible through overclocking.

Compared to the recommended retail prices of the previous generation, the new CPUs are cheaper, but the thirteenth generation chips have fallen significantly in price since their introduction. In practice, the new generation will therefore be somewhat more expensive than the existing one, at least in the beginning.

The first six desktop processors in Intel’s fourteenth generation Core will be available from Tuesday, October 17 at 3:00 PM. The reviews of the new CPUs will also be published at that time.
